Trailer: ‘Mowgli’ Is Out to Reimagine the Classic ‘Jungle Book’ Story
Of course, Rudyard Kipling’s The Jungle Book is as classic a story as you can find, but that doesn’t stop anyone, it seems, from trying to put their spin on the tale of the boy raised by animals. The latest interpretation comes from actor and director Andy Serkis as Mowgli: Legend of the Jungle.

This live-action Jungle Book looks to carry things more into the human world than the Disney animated classic and Disney’s live-action remake from a few years ago. Instead of dodging tigers and snakes, Mowgli has just as much to worry about in this movie from the humanity side of things. This one doesn’t end with Mowgli seeing another person. It really only seems to take off from there.

Andy Serkis is a good choice to direct. The motion-capture innovator has delivered all-time performances (award worthy, some say) as Gollum in Lord of the Rings and Caesar in Planet of the Apes, so for him to take on a live-action Jungle Book makes a ton of sense. We just hope it differentiates from Jon Favreau’s version.

One more point of interest: Mowgli will be rated PG-13. This is an odd choice for a story most people associate with Disney (even though this movie isn’t Mouse-related), but seeing as it’s coming out on Netflix, that probably won’t matter in terms of who’s watching it.

You can catch Mowgli: Legend of the Jungle on Netflix (and some theaters) December 7.
