Kay Warren: Just Because Pastors Talk About Their Mental Health Doesn’t Mean They Aren’t Still at Risk

Saddleback Church co-founder, author and mental health advocate, Kay Warren is among the voices speaking out following the death of 30-year-old pastor Andrew Stoecklein. The husband and father of three was the pastor of California’s Inland Hills Church. He took his own life over the weekend.

Warren, whose own son Matthew took his life after a battle with mental health, is a vocal advocate for those living with mental illness.

Stoecklein was open about his struggles with anxiety, panic attacks and depression in the months leading up to his death.

On Twitter, Warren wrote, “Pastors are human & susceptible to mental illness. Some, like dear Pastor Andrew Stoeklein, bravely share their struggle. Others keep it hidden. Just b/c a pastor talks about their own mental health doesn’t mean they aren’t still at risk. Pray 4 ur pastor.”

On Warren’s website, she offers numerous resources for individuals, families and communities who are affected by mental health issues.

If you or someone you know needs help the Suicide Prevention Lifeline is available around the clock at 1-800-274-8255.
