A faith-based tertiary institution in Ibadan Precious Cornerstone University of The Sword of the Spirit Ministries over the weekend welcomes 90 pioneer students for the 2018/2019 academic session.

The students which are from 16 different states of the federation were welcome at a service and first fellowship of the undergraduate at the Institutions chapel, Garden Of Victory, Olaogun, Off Old Ife road, Ibadan.

The Presiding Bishop, Sword of the Spirit Ministries and Chancellor, PCU, Bishop Francis Wale Oke said the geography and tribal differences of the pioneer students is an indication of the national outlook of the University.

He called on politicians in the country to eschew tribal differences in the same spirit of the new University, noting that only then will building a better and stronger Nigeria will be realistic.

Noting that the institution is also attracting the attention of students from neighboring African countries including, Cote d’Ivoire amongst others, the PCU Promoter expressed optimism that in no distance time, the University will be in the same shade with universities of Harvard, Oxford and Yale.

According to the cleric, the church conceived the idea in 2006 and got the licence in December 2017, 11 years after the idea was conceived and after meeting criteria of the National University Commission (NUC), but that the board of trustees insisted that the institution must wait to be licensed before its official take off.

Oke said PCU is taking off with two faculties; Science and Social Management Science with about 12 programmes including business administration, microbiology, biochemistry, industrial chemistry, computer science, accounting, physics with electronics among others.

He said “So far 90 students, with one foreign student from Cote d’Ivoire and are already on campus from 16 states of the federation and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT). This is a National University that represents Nigeria.

Admission is still open, parents can still send their children provided they scored minimum of 140 in JAMB and have two credits in two sittings.

“Our target is to admit 250 students by February and set a standard in university education in Nigeria.

There is no bias based on religion, tribe or any other. It is a NUC approved university. This is where academic excellence and sound moral value will be promoted.

We don’t want to promote job seekers anymore; we want to produce brilliant students, entrepreneurs and not job seekers.

At PCU, we’re producing job creators, inventors and that’s why we have a Vice Chancellor who is an inventor of a product.”

Bishop Oke further added that the owners of the institution have also put in place measures that will encourage parents who already have students enrolled in the school, stating that there is a scholarship scheme for about 100 students who will later participate in an examination to benefit from it.

According to him, “We have made arrangements for scholarships for at least 100 students.

We have mobilised our friends all over the world to sponsor 100 students. When they come in, the scholarship examinations will be conducted on February 18 and successful students will be absorbed into the scholarship scheme which is renewable at the end of every session. This place is very unique; it is coming out as a true national university.”

In a short exhortation to the student, Bishop Mike Bamidele of Victory Life Ministries International, Ilesa enjoined them to “speak God’s word, have a clear vision, lay a solid foundation for themselves at the beginning and also commit your ways to the hands of God.”

Speaking on the topic “What should I do at the beginning”, the cleric urged the students to be careful not to miss the plans of God for the lives, which is the reason they are the pioneer set of the institution.

In his goodwill message, the Vice Chancellor, Prof Julius Oloke noted that the university is fully ready to carry out its vision of producing entrepreneurs and job creators instead of job seeker upon graduation.
