Walking In The Spirit- Pastor Sam Adeyemi

Walking in the Spirit does not mean moving around cautiously and gingerly like a spirit. Rather, the Holy Spirit is our key to supernatural living because He is the One who makes the spiritual world real to us and He causes us to experience God’s presence. He is the One who makes God’s wisdom and power available to us. The Holy Spirit is the One who literally created the light in the beginning of creation. He is the expression of the presence, wisdom and the power of God (Genesis 1: 1-3). “But I say, walk and live [habitually] in the [Holy] Spirit [responsive to and controlled and guided by the Spirit]; then you will certainly not gratify the cravings and desires of the flesh (of human nature without God)” Galatians 5: 16.

You were designed to run on intelligence that is superior to human intelligence; you were designed to run on power that is superior to human ability. If you don’t engage that power, you will live a mediocre life and will not realize the full potentials that God has put in you (Job 32:8).

“My counsel is this: Live freely, animated and motivated by God’s Spirit. Then you won’t feed on the compulsions of selfishness” (Galatians 5: 16 MSG). It’s the Holy Spirit who animates our faculties – enables you to move, inspires, influences your thinking and feelings. You are delivered from the base life of human nature so that you are enabled to do the things you wish. You can’t rise beyond the quality of your ideas (Is. 55:8 & 9). People in the Bible were influenced by the Spirit and created unusual solutions. Joseph’s solution to Pharaoh’s dream is a good example (Genesis 41:38).

When the Holy Spirit is the One motivating you, He births God’s nature in you and grows God’s character in you. You were designed to be inspired. Being filled with or animated by the Holy Spirit is likened to being drunk with wine (Eph 5:18 &19; Acts 2: 13-17).

As a human being, you will encounter overwhelming situations and so you need to be inspired by the Holy Spirit. Don’t get your inspiration from the wrong sources (alcohol and drugs). The Holy Spirit helps you develop the character of God – love, joy, peace, patience and long-suffering (Galatians 5:22 & 23). You can’t function at your best without the influence of the Holy Spirit. Also, He gives you the power to solve problems. (1 Cor. 12: 7-11).

In recent times, poor people, rich people and executives, because of the demands of their professions and the weaknesses of the human nature, are becoming addicted to narcotics. Your joy does not come from circumstances but from the Greater One who lives in you. Righteousness (right standing with God) and peace are some of the benefits you enjoy when the Spirit of God is in you. You do not need to depend on drugs to repress your conscience or to receive joy (Romans 14: 17; Eph: 5:18 MSG). Spend time in prayer and fellowship with the Holy Spirit; meditate on the Bible regularly and receive revelation from Him.
